Dr. Graham Inspires Us to Shine Our Light

I feel fantastic! I just got home from a wonderful evening event with the premiere Health Educator on the planet, Dr. Doug Graham. His direct style of speaking combined with his simple and effective message helped me to take control of my own health several years ago and it is sheer joy to be in a space with him to watch the 'lightbulbs' go on for each new person that hears him.

Plus, I was especially thrilled to be able to help out in the selling of his brand new book - The 80/10/10 Diet! Still riding high from my recent volunteer experience with T. Harv Eker (see previous blog: 11/13/06 ), I was so excited to get a call from my good friend Stephen Parker who was hosting tonight's event through his Raw Health and Happiness Society. And when he asked me if I'd like to help Dr. Graham sell some of his amazing books/videos/cds and other educational tools at the end of his training, I immediately said yes!

And while this evening's scale was somewhat smaller than the November MMI, (about 50 people as opposed to 2,500) I helped put several books into the hands of people who will use that information to transform their lives and I feel truly blessed to have played a role in that change.

There's a thought resonating within me that says there's a way to get 2,500 people to hear Dr. Graham each time he trains, too. And I intend to be a part of that growth.

Tomorrow night @7pm Dr. Graham will be at Organic Avenue: 101 Stanton Street, NYC and on Thursday @ 7pm at Bonobos Restaurant: 18 E. 23rd St., NYC.

I highly encourage anyone who is looking to achieve supreme health to attend and to check out his website which is loaded with insightful articles and useful tools for success.

An 80s Horror Flick gets a Musical Makeover

Last night at 11pm I was transported back to the 1980s thanks to the new Off-Broadway show, "Evil Dead - The Musical." Based on the horror flick directed by Sam Raimi (recently of Spider-Man fame), this musical is a scream! And by that I mean howls of laughter.

Right from the beginning, after the pre-show 'Hits of the 80s' music subsides, the cast takes the stage riding a cardboard cut-out car and proceeds to run over a cute little cardboard bunny which then shows up behind the car smooshed with tire tracks.

I had a vague sense of familiarity as I watched the cast of actors mug and wink to the audience (and then spew stage blood all over them). I was trying to figure out if I'd seen the show before somehow. I think maybe the style just reminded me of the improv or sketch comedy groups at a theme-park, where the audience is in a great mood and very willing to participate.

Overall, the music was somewhat forgetable, however, the voices were wonderful and the lyrics appropriately silly. And in the one big company dance number (a wanna-be 'Time Warp') the dancers' energy is so palpable that I was completely engrossed.

If it weren't so sad it'd be funny...

Earlier I read a blog entry that was posted on Yahoo's website by a medical doctor on the subject of organic food. Here's just one unfortunate quote: "It is probably true that organic production of all crops improves the environment over time. However, organic farming procedures are inefficient; wholesale adoption of them would make it difficult to meet the food needs of the world."

It seems the good doctor has forgotten that it was only in the 1920s when chemicals began to be used commercially on a large scale. Is he suggesting that humans were actually starving for over a hundred thousand years and it's a good thing someone sprayed on some chemical fertilizer so the population could finally eat?! Please.

I won't say the name of the doctor, although when I read the article this afternoon it already had 203 responses - many saying similar things as I am. (Of course, if you want the name or the article, I'd be happy to send it to you.)

I believe chemical 'conventional' farming is a blip in human evolution and will soon be coming to an end. And I imagine this ill-conceived backlash against organics is part of the chemical industry's desperate attempt to stay alive as the world awakens to the truth.

According to a recent article in Baltimore's The Sun newspaper, sales of organic foods have risen from $3.5 billion in 1997 to more than $15 billion in 2004.

The more we vote with our dollars for natural, healthful, organic produce, the sooner this planet will heal from the damage inflicted upon it over the last few decades.

For Your Consideration...

I went to see "For Your Consideration" tonight. And I laughed myself silly! What a riot!! Christopher Guest has scored again. All the actors turn in hysterical performances in another mock-umentary type narrative that holds the mirror up to the film industry and shows the idiosyncracies of its denizens. (At least this particular group of somewhat nutty ones.)

I totally recommend that you go see this one, so I'm not going to give anything away - I'll just say that with one simple line Jennifer Coolidge almost made my friend bust a gut! And there's plenty more where that came from in the rest of the film.

If you'd like a good laugh, go check it out. Enjoy!

A Show for Mature Audiences? well, it's a show with Mature Performers at any rate...

I went to see Mimi Le Duck tonight, which boasts an entire cast of mature performers. Quite a change of pace from last week's High Fidelity...
In this culture of younger and prettier I was somewhat shocked to see a show without the chorus of scantily clad girls or shirtless boys doing acrobatic, high-energy dances full of thrusts and other risque movements, the stock and trade of many a musical.

And although Mimi Le Duck does have a few pelvic thrusts, delivered with style by the classic Eartha Kitt, the cast remains fully costumed for the duration.

And they are splendid. Annie Golden has a wonderful voice and gives a solid performance. Ken Jennings and Robert DuSold provide light comic touches. Eartha Kitt is poised and powerful. As one of the characters aptly puts it, their "bags may be packed, but the train hasn't left the station."

It looks like this show will be closing this weekend, so if you want to catch it, get your tickets now. Here's a link to the website.

On a completely separate note, I got an email saying that Fresh Durian can be shipped soon! After months of waiting, it looks like I'll finally be getting some in next week. I'll send an email out to those who already expressed interest as well as the others on my list. If you'd like to get in on it, drop me a line. Mmmm, I can taste it already!

A Blessed Thanksgiving and "Thanksliving"

Ah, what a beautiful weekend it was!

As I mentioned last Wednesday, my Aunt and Uncle from Texas were in town and I am so happy that I was able to spend time with them. In addition to many fond childhood memories, I enjoy what has grown into an adult relationship filled with love and respect. So I was thrilled to go with them to the theatre and then to be with them on Thanksgiving Day, along with my Mom and my Aunt's brother and mother.

Now, I chose not to join them for their dinner outing. I spent a good portion of the day meditating and focusing my thoughts on Gratitude and then I met up with them once they had finished their meal. I think all around we were all more comfortable that way. While I have sat with family and friends who still choose to eat animals on occasion, those occasions have become less frequent and almost nonexistant as my circle of raw vegan friends continues to expand. I feel true sorrow for any animal sacrificed and pity for the person who is, like I was only 7 years ago, unconscious about the impact of that decision, and even though I can now witness without passing judgement, a little pain sometimes shows on my face.

Some people think of acting as pretend or lying. I've always believed that great acting is the revelation of truth. And my feelings are always clearly expressed - especially on my face!

After my Aunt repeated, "Isn't it disgusting to you?" several times while we were making plans over the phone, I decided not to offer to join them for dinner and instead suggested I come afterwards. Perhaps the last time we were together she noticed the slight squint of my eyes and the wrinkle in my nose when I looked at a carcass and felt a wave of sadness for the creature.

I am grateful for being able to laugh, share stories and to Celebrate with my family. It was a wonderful day.

And speaking of wonderful days, yesterday was "Thanksliving." A most wonderful day that I have looked forward to for the past three years.

A beautiful friend, Karen Ranzi, hosts a party every year to celebrate life. I'm not sure how long ago it began, or what was the original impetus, but every year on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, a large group of amazing Raw Fooders are invited to bring their fruits and veggies and smiling faces to New Jersey and the welcoming home of the Ranzi's who, most notably, 'adopt' a turkey (by donating to a shelter) as a way of tipping the scales in favor of living rather than the unconscious slaughter of so many animals. And then before sharing a meal together, we share the things that we are grateful for - an extraordinary experience.

The power of gratitude is becoming widely publicized and I would like to add that I felt the vibrational energy in that room palpably rise as we all focused our thoughts on what we were grateful for. It was strong!

Of course the mood was set, as it has been for years, with a heartfelt and inspiring talk by Dr. Doug Graham. Over the last 7 years, I have been fortunate to hear Dr. Graham speak numerous times and have been blessed to get to know him on a personal level as well and I can say that he is one of the most truly kind, compassionate, dedicated and generous souls on this planet. And although the value of every Thanksliving lecture is enormous, Dr. Graham donates his time without receiving any fee. What an amazing gift to us all!

Each year I get to see some faces I haven't seen in a while, reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and enjoy the company of conscious people. It's invigorating!

It was especially invigorating this year, because it was such a beautiful day that a few of us began by playing a bit of football outside! Ah, to run, to feel the sun and to breathe fresh air!!

Now, I played a lot of sports very well as a kid - baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, raquetball, handball, even a little tennis and the requisite track & field events of the schools, and other P.E. class games, plus the less vigorous ping pong, darts and billiards, just to name a few, and even excelled in some. But I must admit, when I played football (and 'touch' football was as far as I went) my passes often wobbled and rarely spiraled. (Maybe one spiral out of ten throws...) Oh, they would often reach my intended target - but it wasn't pretty, and it took great effort on my part. So much so, that the thought of continuing any further in that sport never entered my head.

If you don't already know, Dr. Graham has been the coach to many world class athletes. He happened to catch a pass that I threw and came over to me and in less than 30 seconds showed me a technique for throwing (passed on to him by a pro-footballer), that I put to use immediately and threw all spirals from then on - with less effort and greater accuracy! I am still in awe. As if reading my mind he mentioned that this is something we're not taught in school. Oh boy! I think back on the torn rotator cuff that could have been spared, not to mention the repeated blows to my self confidence with each wobbly throw I released...

Hmmm.... I wonder when the next NFL draft is...

For more info about Dr. Graham, check out his website.

He'll also be appearing at 1 more event in New Jersey and 2 events in Manhattan:
This Thursday in Ramsey, NJ - contact khranzi@aol.com for details.

Next Monday 12/4 at Stephen Parker's Raw Health and Happiness Society meeting at the Hartley House - 413 W 46th Street, between 9th/10th Aves.

Next Thursday, 12/7 at Bonobos Restaurant, 18 E 23rd Street (at Madison Ave.)

Each event begins at 7pm. See you there!

A Note About the Previous Blog...

I had planned on blogging about my "Thanksliving" weekend, and I will get to that, but first I'd like to say a bit about a film I just watched. America: Freedom to Fascism is one man's opinion.

Or the opinion of the small group of people who made the film, perhaps.

My point is that every film produced, every news story reported, every book published has its perspective - the author's opinion. Granted they are often filled with facts, at least the reputable ones are, but ultimately it is we who decide what is the truth. And that is the reason I have posted the film in this blog. To give you the opportunity to hear this opinion, think about what you consider to be true and become empowered to take action - whatever action you feel resonates with your truth.

Just for clarity, I've left intact the words that came over from the website underneath the video viewer. The use of the word 'we' in the final paragraph refers to the producers of the film, not the author of this blog (me, that is...).

I am grateful for having seen the film. There were a few issues raised of which I was unaware. I encourage you to watch the film, if you haven't seen it already, then surf the web to research the articles presenting opposing viewpoints as well, to get a more rounded base of knowledge, particularly on the issue of the Federal Reserve.

I believe the time has come when the nation ought to debate the resourcefulness of the decision to grant power to the Federal Reserve. Is it truly in the best interest of this country to hand that power to a select group of individuals, and pay handsomely for the 'privilege'?

Regardless of whether your answer is Yes or No, I urge you to make a choice and stand up for it and I am interested to hear your feedback on that question. Thanks.

America Freedom to Fascism Authorized version

Please visit http://www.freedomtofascism.com to purchase the DVD.

This is the "Director's Final Cut" authorized version of Aaron Russo's documentary, America: Freedom To Fascism (AFTF). It is being uploaded to Google Video for the first time during the evening of October 19-20th, 2006. Aaron has listened to everyone's feedback - volunteers, students, lovers of freedom & liberty, young and old alike - and, true to his word, he is putting this up "for free" on Google Video knowing that the hour has come for Americans to either be awakened to restore the Republic or be swept aside by the dark global forces of fascism that seeks to enslave mankind.

AFTF's main focus comes in a statement with six very simple words: SHUT DOWN THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM!!

After viewing the movie, please be sure to visit http://www.freedomtofascism.com where you will soon be able to view a much higher quality "pay per view" Internet version of AFTF, buy the DVD and sign up as an affiliate to sell/distribute DVDs to others.

We also urge everyone to be sure to sign up as volunteer, register for email alerts and tell your family, friends and neighbors about this groundbreaking movie.

Run Don't Walk and Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

"High Fidelity" is absolutely wonderful! Touching and funny. The audience last night was overwhelmingly enthusiastic. The voices are strong and clear, the set is stunning and the music rocks.

Now, if you happen to be sensitive to profanity or allergic to silly lyrics, you may wish to avoid this one. But for those with an adventurous spirit or the desire to enjoy yourself - go see it!

And a note of Thanks for You:

Of all blessings, I am most grateful for my truly wonderful Family and Friends.

On this Thanksgiving, I Thank You for all the joy and light you bring into my life and the lives of so many others.

With Love,
Robert

A Night of Theater

Tonight my Aunt and Uncle from Texas are in town and so we're headed to the theater! There's another new musical based on a film (that seems to be quite a trend lately). Hopefully "High Fidelity" will live up to its own hype. I'll let you know. Either way, I'll be glad to spend time with my family!

Today's wisdom: Bundle up if you're going to be outside watching the parade tomorrow! (Ok, that's not so much wisdom as just some sound friendly advice...)

Casting Notice

Something I didn't mention in my last post was that after the show on Saturday, I sat with my friend Dave and a friend of his who joined us to discuss what we had seen.

Without going into the details about the show again, I'll just say that their feelings echoed my own.

Now, the reason I mention this meeting is just that Dave's friend, a director/producer from Italy, will be bringing his latest show to NYC in February. He is currently looking for a female non-union actor who dances Tango excellently. He was quite specific that the actor already dance extremely well as it is integral to the story.

If you or anyone you know fits that description, feel free to drop me a line and I'll put you in touch.

While he did say was that he would like a non-union performer for the role, I began discussing with him the benefits of using an Equity actor, and I suggest that all qualified actors submit and I'll do what I can to facilitate his use of an Equity actor.

Biographical Plays - Potentially Powerful

On Saturday night I went to an Off-Broadway play called "Duse's Fever." And although I am curious to learn more about the actress the title refers to, I was basically unmoved.

First of all, based on the publicity photo, I assumed this was going to be a one-woman show about the famous Italian actress Eleanora Duse. I was correct. However, the actress of this show portrayed Duse's maid. And, while I got over that bit of deception quickly, in spite of a few touching moments, overall it was pretty flat.

I applaud the writer/performer for her intention to throw some light on the life of this Italian acting icon. And in that, she succeeded. However, I have the feeling that perhaps she didn't go deep enough.

After all, would "Amadeus" have been as moving if we only saw and heard Salieri and not Mozart? And after seeing "What's Love Got To Do With It?" I remember thinking that Angela Bassett's portrayal of Tina Turner was so powerful that when the real Tina came on in the end, I was disappointed. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say jarred. Jarred out of that imagined reality I had bought into.

But I'm not debating the reasons we go to the theater, whether or not a fictional portrayal can show more truth than reality... or the impact of an audience's willing suspension of disbelief. My point is simply that these actors took on a well-known personae. They didn't back away. They took a risk. And the result was awesome.

Today's wisdom: Shoot for the stars, you'll at least reach the ceiling.

Harmony

I considered title-ing this post "Balance = Death" but decided to be slightly less dramatic about it. The thing is, when things are balanced, they are stagnant - lifeless. To seek balance is to seek a cessation of life. We are beings created of energy in motion. Our vibrations can be in or out of harmony with the other energies around us. Therefore, I believe it is essential to keep our thoughts focused on our preferred outcomes. Whatever we harmonize with will be attracted to us.

A Response to "Earthlings"

Wow. At first I was thinking I would just write a review that went something like this: For anyone who still eats meat or wears animal products I recommend it and for anyone who's a vegetarian, you can skip it.

I've decided to say a bit more.

The film is extremely graphic in its depiction of cruelty to animals. Blood and guts are constantly being spilled. At least I think so, because I had my eyes closed for most of the film.

As I mulled it over while we were discussing the film afterwards, I thought, "I believe that there's a reason for everything and that we are always in the perfect place at all times." Which means there's a reason I saw the film. I, who haven't harmed an animal for any reason in almost 7 years.

I thought about it some more...

What could possibly be the reason that I was seeing this film? My logic may be a bit of a stretch now, but I encourage you to go with me on this one... I believe we are all one interconnected consciousness. And while I may be treating animals with kindness, others are not.

But who am I and who are they, really? All one. Meaning I am part of a consciousness still involved in the cruel treatment of animals. While I am thrilled that by my personal choices I have decreased the amount of violence on this planet, is there more I can do?

Well, since I think people who are eating and wearing animals will not be attracted to this film, is there a way we can use this collective connection to raise the level of consciousness? I believe there is.

So here's the experiment: taking into consideration the fact that scientists believe pain is a greater movitator for change than pleasure, take a look at the film, experience some of the pain and then do this visualization: picture anyone you know who still treats animals with cruelty feeling this pain, truly and deeply becoming conscious of the effects of their actions and then changing their ways.

What we focus on expands and I envision a conscious, loving and harmonious planet. And that vision is created by our actions today. Namaste.

Many thanks to the beautiful Denise Mari of Organic Avenue for organizing and showing this film!

Today's wisdom:
A PERSONAL NOTE FROM STEPHEN SIMON, CO-FOUNDER OF THE SPIRITUAL CINEMA CIRCLE

IT'S TIME TO OWN OUR POWER
If you're like me, you believe in making a difference in the world. Hollywood isn't interested in heart-and-soul movies, because they don't think there's a big enough audience for them.

You and I know, though, that there's a lot of us in the world who want to see movies that make you feel better about being a human being. I think it's time we made our voicesheard loud and clear.

At THE SPIRITUAL CINEMA CIRCLE, we're committed to sending you great movies every month. We want you to join us in a larger mission, though. We're committed to a new spiritualityin the world, and we're guessing you are, too. The fastest-growing spiritual movement of the past thirty years is often tagged with labels like New Age, New Thought or Transformational.

Like me, you probably don't care about labels - you just think it's about being fully human. You probably have a deep conviction, as I do, that we fulfill our highest potential when we're in touch with the organic divinity and god(dess) inside us all. You feel strongly, as I do, that we all create our own reality, and that tochange that reality, we just need to adjust our beliefs about what's possible.

In his book CULTURAL CREATIVES: HOW 50 MILLION PEOPLE ARE CHANGING THE WORLD, Paul Ray refers to people like us as Cultural Creatives. His book says we have a tremendous power but that we lack one thing: awareness of ourselves as a wholecommunity.

Now, it's time to own our power and join together in making a real difference.

As a Member of The Circle, each month you'll receive a DVD with FOUR new movies (a mix of features, shorts and documentaries). And unlike many services, with The Circle, you get to KEEP each volume of movies, and we encourage you to share them with your friends and family. There isn't another offer like this anywhere.
Join us in changing the world by raising the consciousness of entertainment in our time...

Speaking of Service (Take 2)

I had a little challenge posting the blog I wrote yesterday. I'm still getting used to this system. Here it is...

Writing yesterday's blog got me thinking all about opportunities to serve others, and once again, since that was where my mind was focused, the universe has responded. Today I got an email with a call to volunteer as a mentor. So I filled out the application. This particular program only has 20 participants, which means only 20 mentors. Will I make the cut? We'll see.

And here's a celebratory note: my friend Barry just got cast for an appearance on an episode of the network show 30 Rock. Congratulations Barry!

Are you ready to receive whatever the universe is willing to provide?

To say it was Absolutely Awesome is an understatement... this weekend I witnessed thousands of people experiencing amazing transformations! As a participant in the Millionaire Mind Intensive back in May, I was supported by a strong group of volunteers, staff members and the world's #1 trainer, T. Harv Eker. And I am so blessed that I was now able to volunteer and fulfill my purpose of serving others in growing to their full potential. Donating our energy, either in time or money, is a fantastic way to affect positive changes on this planet. And in order to position ourselves to help others, we must have the resources (wealth) to do so. You can't give something to someone else if you don't have it. So it is essential to be able to attract wealth in all areas and be open to receiving it. Rich people are excellent receivers. Poor people are poor receivers. This week, in addition to choosing a worthy cause to give your time or money to, practice opening up your receiving muscles and when you are offered something, accept it graciously. Welcome to the Acting Consciously Blog!

I look forward to sharing much wonderful information and fun with you in this blog! Tomorrow I'm on my way to volunteer for a fabulous event called the Millionaire Mind Intensive. When I attended the event as a participant I was absolutely transformed. I'll post again on Monday. Come on back then! Today's wisdom: My choices create my reality. (T. Harv Eker)
