Dr. Graham Inspires Us to Shine Our Light

I feel fantastic! I just got home from a wonderful evening event with the premiere Health Educator on the planet, Dr. Doug Graham. His direct style of speaking combined with his simple and effective message helped me to take control of my own health several years ago and it is sheer joy to be in a space with him to watch the 'lightbulbs' go on for each new person that hears him.

Plus, I was especially thrilled to be able to help out in the selling of his brand new book - The 80/10/10 Diet! Still riding high from my recent volunteer experience with T. Harv Eker (see previous blog: 11/13/06 ), I was so excited to get a call from my good friend Stephen Parker who was hosting tonight's event through his Raw Health and Happiness Society. And when he asked me if I'd like to help Dr. Graham sell some of his amazing books/videos/cds and other educational tools at the end of his training, I immediately said yes!

And while this evening's scale was somewhat smaller than the November MMI, (about 50 people as opposed to 2,500) I helped put several books into the hands of people who will use that information to transform their lives and I feel truly blessed to have played a role in that change.

There's a thought resonating within me that says there's a way to get 2,500 people to hear Dr. Graham each time he trains, too. And I intend to be a part of that growth.

Tomorrow night @7pm Dr. Graham will be at Organic Avenue: 101 Stanton Street, NYC and on Thursday @ 7pm at Bonobos Restaurant: 18 E. 23rd St., NYC.

I highly encourage anyone who is looking to achieve supreme health to attend and to check out his website which is loaded with insightful articles and useful tools for success.

An 80s Horror Flick gets a Musical Makeover

Last night at 11pm I was transported back to the 1980s thanks to the new Off-Broadway show, "Evil Dead - The Musical." Based on the horror flick directed by Sam Raimi (recently of Spider-Man fame), this musical is a scream! And by that I mean howls of laughter.

Right from the beginning, after the pre-show 'Hits of the 80s' music subsides, the cast takes the stage riding a cardboard cut-out car and proceeds to run over a cute little cardboard bunny which then shows up behind the car smooshed with tire tracks.

I had a vague sense of familiarity as I watched the cast of actors mug and wink to the audience (and then spew stage blood all over them). I was trying to figure out if I'd seen the show before somehow. I think maybe the style just reminded me of the improv or sketch comedy groups at a theme-park, where the audience is in a great mood and very willing to participate.

Overall, the music was somewhat forgetable, however, the voices were wonderful and the lyrics appropriately silly. And in the one big company dance number (a wanna-be 'Time Warp') the dancers' energy is so palpable that I was completely engrossed.

If it weren't so sad it'd be funny...

Earlier I read a blog entry that was posted on Yahoo's website by a medical doctor on the subject of organic food. Here's just one unfortunate quote: "It is probably true that organic production of all crops improves the environment over time. However, organic farming procedures are inefficient; wholesale adoption of them would make it difficult to meet the food needs of the world."

It seems the good doctor has forgotten that it was only in the 1920s when chemicals began to be used commercially on a large scale. Is he suggesting that humans were actually starving for over a hundred thousand years and it's a good thing someone sprayed on some chemical fertilizer so the population could finally eat?! Please.

I won't say the name of the doctor, although when I read the article this afternoon it already had 203 responses - many saying similar things as I am. (Of course, if you want the name or the article, I'd be happy to send it to you.)

I believe chemical 'conventional' farming is a blip in human evolution and will soon be coming to an end. And I imagine this ill-conceived backlash against organics is part of the chemical industry's desperate attempt to stay alive as the world awakens to the truth.

According to a recent article in Baltimore's The Sun newspaper, sales of organic foods have risen from $3.5 billion in 1997 to more than $15 billion in 2004.

The more we vote with our dollars for natural, healthful, organic produce, the sooner this planet will heal from the damage inflicted upon it over the last few decades.

For Your Consideration...

I went to see "For Your Consideration" tonight. And I laughed myself silly! What a riot!! Christopher Guest has scored again. All the actors turn in hysterical performances in another mock-umentary type narrative that holds the mirror up to the film industry and shows the idiosyncracies of its denizens. (At least this particular group of somewhat nutty ones.)

I totally recommend that you go see this one, so I'm not going to give anything away - I'll just say that with one simple line Jennifer Coolidge almost made my friend bust a gut! And there's plenty more where that came from in the rest of the film.

If you'd like a good laugh, go check it out. Enjoy!
